My 2nd journey out to new york city. i ended up being sick for most of my time there, unable to sing all the times I would have liked to, so I found myself sipping coffee at various places and writing away, thoughts...expressions overheard....I put them together in this song.... I actually did have a guy come up to me while I was by the columbia campus wondering if I was homeless and stuff...

of everybody on the last train leaving the station

she was left alone standing there waitin'

for a call that never came another time another place

she was drowning in her anticipation

Amber waves of grain flowing golden hair and a perfect frame

light up the night with your song Jessie's coming home it's been so long

"you never stand in the same river twice

what used to be has moved further down the line"

there's a meeting in the park down on fifth street

this train will leave the station at ten

with some paper he would write all his thoughts down

when he's out of lead he'll switch to a pen

miles fly by with borders crossing

these two rail aint no interstate

from washington to washington it's a little thing they call the AmTra-K

Refrain

He said, I don't know you do it but you do it.

Did you hitch hike son?  No sir I took a train.

Are you stranded are you cold well are you  homeless are you broke?

we'll have to see  in just a few more days

i'm trying hard to hold onto my money

I'm trying hard to hold on to my head

your batteries run low sometimes it all seems like a joke

and we would all be better off instead

"you never stand in the same river twice,

what used to be has move further down the line

and if you try to remain playing in yesterday's game

you'll find the times have changed

and you're left chasing after..chasing after

Bridge~

And you've got one foot in and one foot out

strattlin' the line there is no doubt

you gonna get what you need you gonna get what you need

good things come to those wait

hoping you don't hesitate cause time it will pass you on by no lie no lie it's no lie

on the rise to make the grade open eyes to see mistakes

it's the wrong way no i think not

cause I think there's room at the top

She didn't sleep the night before

so cold she had to draw the curtains back and forth

running her hands if but to smoothe the rippled waves of attitude

that had surfaced from the center of her world

"you never stand in the same river twice,

what used to be has move further down the line

and if you try to remain playing in yesterday's game

you'll find the times have changed

and you're left chasing after..chasing after
